Cooper may look like a cool player with his mustache and tuxedo but his personality is more awkward lover-boy. He is a very sweet (deaf) boy who needs to find his person or people. He’s not crazy about his own kind so he needs to be the only cat, but his love of people and dogs makes up for that.

Cooper showed up skinny, flea infested and crying for help. We assume someone dumped him because it’s hard to imagine that he survived outdoors being deaf. Also, he has adapted wonderfully to living indoors (which is a must) and he uses his litterboxes like a champ. He may have been born deaf or there could have been an infection or injury that caused it. Cooper also has a small cloudy spot on his right eye (again, maybe from an infection or injury) which may fade over time, or it may not, but it doesn’t seem to bother him or affect his vision.

Cooper tested negative for Feline Leukemia and AIDS and has been neutered and vaccinated and dewormed. He has received several flea treatments and we seem to have won that battle.

He loves people and greets us with excitement and joy. He loves to be petted, combed and brushed. He is playful and energetic but not destructive and is actually pretty tidy for such a young cat. He is perfectly comfortable with our dog (who is 17 lbs. and cat friendly). The problem has been his interactions with our existing cats; he gets nervous and will sometimes be aggressive towards them. It’s possible that he could learn to live happily with another cat but we have four and that’s a lot of anxiety to overcome.

Cooper needs someone who is kind and patient and who understands that communicating with a deaf cat will take special effort, such as using gestures, touch, and vibrations to get his attention. He is up-to-date with his vet needs but we want him to go to someone who will not hesitate to take him to a vet or an emergency hospital, and someone who can provide anything he needs to be healthy and happy. Cooper deserves to be King of his own domain, to roam the house freely without worrying about who might be around the corner and to sleep peacefully.

If you’re interested in meeting Cooper we live an hour south of Pittsburgh, 40 minutes from South Park, in Scenery Hill, 15360, Washington County. Thank you for taking the time to learn about Cooper.
