Hello!

I am looking to rehome my dog Reese. She is a 5-year old chocolate lab in great health. She is spayed and just had a visit on June 2nd to get up-to-date on her vaccinations. She is about 65 lbs. Reese is a wonderful dog and is very sweet and kind and caring and fun. About 7 months ago I went on my honeymoon and left my dog with my mom. She has been at my moms many times with my mom's other dogs and has played fine with them, even being there when food was given with no issues. Reese was submissive, played well with them, and even lived there with the other dogs for the first few months of being a puppy during COVID. This time, a baby dropped a piece of food and Reese went to eat it. My mom's pitbull mix attacked her and bit off part of her ear. Reese has been more anxious since then and gets stressed when she is in an enclosed space. My youngest son has been very rough and aggressive with her since I got married to his dad and moved in. He has been pulling her tail, poking her in the eyes, kicking her in the stomach, choking her with the collar, etc. We have repeatedly tried to get him to stop. Since she was attacked by another dog, Reese gets a little on edge and stressed when her space is invaded and she cannot escape. Last night, my son climbed into her cage with her while she was eating a treat and repeatedly tried to get her attention, escalating his aggressive behavior when she ignored him and gave him warnings to stop. She bit him. He needed it cleaned and antibiotics as a precaution, but only needed a bandaid. She was certainly provoked and gave warnings and she has had to put up with a lot of abuse from him. Especially considering she was attacked, she has been very patient with him. Since he was bit, we no longer want her in our home since he cannot follow the rules as to how to treat her properly. She is a wonderful dog that gives great snuggles and is very loving. She has visited my mom's house and played great with her multiple dogs many times, until the attack. Since the attack, she has seen dogs in passing while on walks and been fine but not been living with another dog. I think if she was introduced slowly and was with another dog that is non-aggressive and possessive she would be okay. My mom has cats that are around her house and she never had an issue with them, but she has never lived with a cat before. She is truly wonderful with my kids until the incident where she was very much provoked, gave warnings, and was unable to escape. I think if she was with older kids that could follow dog safety rules she would be an absolutely wonderful addition to a family. Please contact me with any other questions at all. 585-332-9715
