Looking to rehome our 3 year old male German shepherd, Yoru.
He has epilepsy and is needed to be on twice daily pills. The medicine reduces the occurrence of seizures, but missing or late doses can place him at risk of breakthrough seizures.
We will have a loss of income in June as well as a change in help available at home when his big brother leaves for college. While the income loss was anticipated since last year, Yoru’s health condition was not. With our busy schedules, we already struggle to meet his needs for pill schedule, supervision and overall presence should another seizure occur. We can’t risk him having a seizure when home alone too long or when only one adult might be home with our small child. We are also fearful of additional financial burden with the upcoming job loss and being set back by the earlier ED visits. We love him dearly but we feel he would be better off with a family that can meet his needs.
Aside from his diagnosis, he is a very healthy boy. He is a big lap dog. He is demanding of cuddles and pats. He can be clingy at times but is also content occupying himself with his toys or lounging around. He can be shy or hesitant around new people approaching him, but is easily won over with treats. He gets along with other dogs while he is at his pet sitters. He has been great with kids of all ages, even tolerant of our younger one learning boundaries. He knows basic commands and can press command buttons to request to eat, get treats or go potty and go play. (We don’t think he fully understands them, but he tries to get reactions from them.) He is overall very quiet, only barks when a stranger comes to close or whines when impatient to eat or to go outside. He likes to play tug of war, chase and catch but gets tired easily since his first seizure. Enjoys sunbathing, gazing out the window, and people watching. He also likes popping bubbles and playing with water.
Up to date on vaccinations. Microchipped.
We can provide all his belongings like crates, toys, and miscellaneous supplies.
