I am looking for a loving home for my female pineapple green-cheek conure, Destiny (DOB 12/8/21, 4 years 9 months). I have a certificate confirming her sex. I brought her home from a bird store on 2/11/22 after visiting her several times as a baby.
Destiny is fully flighted, extremely intelligent, affectionate, social, silly, and spicy. She is a true companion bird who strongly prefers human interaction and enrichment over toys. She can mimic words and knows commands including hi, come, touch, kiss, gentle, pet, hold, upside down, lay, perch, step, and fly. She loves grooming her person and has a funny habit of putting her foot on my nose when I say “paw.”
She is food motivated, and her diet consists of pellets, seed mix, vegetables, and fruits as treats.
Destiny is very loving but strongly bonded to her chosen person and can flock-call persistently from her cage when that person is nearby in the same room because she wants to be out and with them. She can also become very strongly bonded to her primary person.
Like many conures, Destiny can be territorial around her cage and food. She may bite if someone puts a finger inside her cage or interferes with her food, so she does best with someone who respects her boundaries and understands parrot body language.
She does best with plenty of out-of-cage time and would ideally have a separate, bird-safe room where she can freely fly in and out of her open cage, exercise, explore, and vocalize, along with scheduled time outside her room for human interaction and companionship. Sitters and bird boarders have reported that she is not particularly loud when staying with them.
She has lived successfully with my small dog under supervision and even gives him morning kisses, but because she can become overly clingy, interaction with other pets should always be supervised. An experienced bird owner who understands companion parrots would be ideal.
I am rehoming Destiny because of major changes in my living, health, and financial circumstances. My apartment flooded multiple times, I became ill, and I ultimately had to leave.
*** Destiny will come with a bird stand, carrier, small cage, toys, food bowls, and food. She also has a large Yaheetech 69" wheeled cage that she is accustomed to and loves. The large cage is currently in storage in Sacramento, CA, and I strongly prefer that it go with her. ***
I will be involved in the adoption process and want to make sure she goes to the right home, not simply the first person interested. The adopter will need to pick her up at or near Sacramento, and I prefer that they visit her multiple times beforehand to build a bond. I know Destiny very well and will be available to help her new owner understand her personality, routines, training, and needs.
